Residuals and Biosolids Workshop Slated for December 5

OWEA announces Maintenance Committee

OWEA is excited to announce the creation of a new committee that will serve our members who are maintenance professionals, for whom maintenance is a big part of their position, or who have a special interest in plant maintenance. We know that maintenance plays a very important and varying role depending on the facility and we want to better serve those members. This committee is being chaired by Keith Rose with Greene County. WEF Welcomes Two New Ohio Fellows

OWEA is proud that two of our long-time members and former presidents are now two of the newest WEF Fellows. Both Dale Kocarek and Dianne Sumego joined thirteen other wastewater professionals to make up the 2023 class of WEF Fellows. This prestigious designation recognizes exemplary contributions to the WEF community and significant professional achievements and stature. Dale is the Assistant Wastewater Facilities Manager for the City of Aurora and Dianne is the President of dms water solutions. Congratulations Dale and Dianne!

We are now accepting abstracts for the 2024 One Water Conference, slated for August 5-8 in Sandusky, Ohio. Three Ohio Ops Challenge Teams at WEFTEC

Ohio was very well represented at the recent WEF Operations Challenge during WEFTEC 2023! The three teams representing Ohio were Dirty Deeds from the Northwestern Water and Sewer District (NWWSD), pHila-Menance from the City of Lima and Excrement Exterminators from the City of Columbus. All three teams practiced and worked very hard, and it paid off, with the Excrement Exterminators placing in the safety contest.

Renewal for Lab Analysts is OPEN

Are you a certified lab analyst? If so, you should have received an email letting you know it’s time to renew your voluntary certification. If you didn’t receive an email, please check your spam or junk folders and make sure that OWEA has your most up-to-date information. If we don’t have a correct email, we can’t contact you. Renewals are good until 2025 and are due by January 31, 2024. Late renewals will incur a signification late fee.

Draft Ohio Domestic Action Plan 2023 Available

The Draft Ohio Domestic Action Plan 2023 has been posted and is available for review. This plan was last updated for 2020 and supports the H2Ohio Initiative. The plan specifically addresses the overall goal of a 40% nutrient reduction in Lake Erie. Comments regarding the plan are due by November 17.

Certified Wastewater Operators – Time to Check Your Hours

If you are a Certified Wastewater Operator, you should take a moment and check your E-Biz account to make sure that all your hours are correctly reflected in your account. Now is the time to do this verses right before you renew your license. At times your account may not show they hours you think it should, this could be due to an incorrect  Operator ID being entered during registration or many other reasons. Don’t wait until the last minute to make sure you have the hours you need!
