Safety Awards Due THIS FRIDAY – APRIL 15

Does your facility have a great safety program? Then tell us! OWEA is accepting applications for the 2021 Safety Awards (applications are submitted the following year) until April 15, 2022. This is your chance to show everyone how much of a priority safety is where you work. There are three possible levels of recognition: OWEA Safety Certificate, OWEA Safety Award and the WEF Burke Award. Categories are divided buy number of employees and wastewater treatment and collections. This year a NEW category has been created for those interested parties that don’t really fit in wastewater or collections – Support System of the Year. Ohio EPA Offers Webinar on Water and Wastewater Funding

The Ohio EPA wants to make sure you know the best way for your facility and community to obtain funding from the recent federal infrastructure bill. Plan now to join the webinar on April 27, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. to receive updates on the federal infrastructure bill, and to learn more about how Ohio EPA will be administering these funds through the existing Water Pollution Control Loan Fund (WPCLF) and Water Supply Revolving Loan Account (WSRLA). This webinar will cover some funding basics, provide an overview of the federal infrastructure bill (known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act or Bipartisan Infrastructure Law), review the highlights of U.S. EPA's "Implementation Memo," and provide an overview of some potential WPCLF/WSRLA program enhancements. Ohio's implementation timeline and "next steps" will also be discussed. Time will be included for comments and Q & A. Register for the webinar HERE.

Free Webinar Offered on the Water Workforce of the Future

We know not only is it challenging to recruit new wastewater professionals, but it’s also challenging to retain them. Learn from two water utility managers how they are ensuring their employees can succeed and advance in their careers during “Retaining a Strong and Resilient Utility Workforce.” This FREE webinar is slated for May 4, 2022 from 1 – 2:30 p.m. It is part of the Creating the Water Workforce of the Future series hosted by the EPA, in partnership with WEF and other organizations.

Ohio EPA Scholarship Deadline is April 15

The Ohio EPA will give multiple scholarships to current students at Ohio public and private universities and technical schools of up to $5,000. These merit based, non renewable scholarships are offered to encourage students to complete degrees and enter careers in engineering and environmental science fields. Applicants must have an overall GPA of at least a 3.0 and also provide letters of recommendation and evidence of career motivation. You can find out more details and apply HERE.
