Sections and State Team Up to Bring Operations and Industrial Waste Information to YOU

The Northeast and Southwest sections of OWEA are teaming up to bring their largest seminars to you in February! The best part – it will be on YOUR schedule.
Normally both our Northeast and Southwest sections host their largest events November thru February. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 this wasn’t possible. But rest assured we still have you covered! These sections and the state office teamed up to bring you timely, relevant education from the comfort of your home, office or plant.

Topics include:
  • Ohio EPA Update with Director Stevenson
  • Local Limits from A to Z with Elizabeth Toot-Levy, Geosyntec
  • PFAS Monitoring and Treatment Opportunities at Water Resource Reclamation Facilities with Kelly Landry, Hazen and Sawyer
  • Industrial Wastes Focused Ohio EPA Update with Tyler Bowman, Ohio EPA
  • Conducting/Surviving an Annual Inspection with Evan McGuffey, MSDGC
  • Startup of Fort Scott WWTP: Challenges and Solutions with Andrew Knowles, MSDGC
With this On Demand option, you can grab up to six contact hours whenever it works for you from February 10-24.

Plan Now to Attend GARA on March 2

The One Water Government and Regulatory Affairs Workshop will feature speakers from both the Ohio EPA, WEF and AWWA. In addition, you will have the opportunity to understand how COVID has impacted HR, COVID surveillance, and how other municipalities are dealing with all the challenges the Coronavirus has brought our way.

This workshop will once again offer attendees the option to send questions for the EPA, anonymously. This is a great opportunity to get the information you need, in a comfortable manner.

This event is slated to be IN-PERSON and will be conducted with your safety in mind. We will have adequate social distancing, masks will be worn at all times, cleaning and sanitizing will happen frequently and food service will look different.

Ohio EPA DSW Draft 401 WQC for the Nationwide Permits

On September 15, 2020, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) proposed an early renewal of the 2017 Nationwide Permits (NWPs) in the Federal Register (Volume 85, No. 179).  The Corps public noticed the proposed Regional Conditions for the Ohio NWPs on Sept. 15, 2020.

On December 16, 2020, Ohio EPA released a public notice of the Draft Section 401 Water Quality Certification (WQC) for the proposed NWPs.  Information on the draft 401 WQC and the proposed Nationwide and Regional conditions is available on Ohio EPA's DSW 401 Website.

The Corps published the final version of the NWPs in the Federal Register (Volume 86, No. 8) on January 13, 2021.  The revised NWPs will take effect on March 15, 2021.

A virtual public hearing on the draft 401 WQC is scheduled on February 4, 2021 at 3:30pm.  Interested parties must register for the hearing here.  Comments on the draft 401 WQC should be submitted by email to epa.dswcomments@epa.ohio.gov by 5:00 pm on February 11, 2021

Monthly Webinar Packages Still Offer Convenience and Savings

Worried you might have missed the opportunity to take advantage of OWEA’s monthly webinar packages? This opportunity is still available and continues to offer value and convenience.

You can learn more about the six and twelve month options HERE
Not interested in a package? No problem – you can register for each event separately as your time and schedule allow. February’s webinar is brought to you courtesy of Buckeye Pumps and will feature Bob Domkowski of Xlylem, Inc. covering “COVID-19 Modern Trash Loading Proves Sewage Pump Clog Resistance Can Not Be Predicted By Impeller Throughlet Size.”

One leading results of the COVID-19 pandemic has been the significant increase in the mass loading of Modern Trash being experienced in municipal collection systems. Ratepayers have fully expanded the breadth of "items that should not be flushed" introducing near-any cleaning wipe, rag and paper towel into collection systems nationwide disrupting normal operations. This presentation reviews the current collection systems situation, examines the challenges that conventional solids-handling pumps cannot overcome, previews laboratory clog testing results and delivers successful solutions proven to minimize disruptions and reduce OPEX.

You can register for this singular February event HERE
