Ask the EPA

Do you need to know more on PFAS? Or why your facility received a violation? How about the latest on  nutrient limits?

Attendees of the 2020 One Water Government and Regulatory Affairs Conference have a unique opportunity to ask EPA representatives questions while remaining anonymous. The questions will be answered during this joint effort of the Ohio Section of AWWA and OWEA event. If you haven’t registered do so today and don’t forget to submit all questions via this link. Questions are being accepted through 2/24. While the link asks for your name, it won’t be shared and you shall remain anonymous.

Don't forget to register for Government Affairs here!

Thanks for your generosity!

OWEA would like to thank all of the generous donors who made it possible for several NWWSD employees to join Operators Without Borders in the Bahamas to aid in the recovery of the island’s water/wastewater infrastructure

WEF Hits the Big Screen with Movie

WEF is going Hollywood with Brave Blue World! Brave Blue World is a feature-length documentary that examines how new technologies and innovations can create a sustainable water future. As a production partner, WEF and our members will use the film to raise public awareness about the solutions to water challenges.

Narrated by Liam Neeson, the documentary includes interviews with a variety of water experts, as well as high-profile advocates Matt Damon and Jaden Smith. It features compelling stories, beautiful scenery, and examples from across five continents to show novel ways of tackling water problems.
The film explores developments in areas such as water reuse, nutrient recovery, energy generation, decentralized treatment, and the digitization of water.
More information will be available soon on where you can see the full film, but for now, take a look at the trailer:

Beware of Email Scams

Recently you may have received a “phishing” or fake email from what appears to be a member of our Executive Committee. Often scammers get email information for our Executive Committee members or Committee Chairs from our website. Your information with OWEA hasn’t been compromised in anyway and unfortunately there isn’t much we can do to combat this except provide some tips on how to know if an email is real.
  1. Does the wording sound like something the person would say or is it slightly off?
  2. Are the grammar and capitalization correct?
  3. Are they asking you for something (EC members will not contact you via email asking you to purchase gift cards or to “help” them with anything)?
  4. Check the email address. It might be VERY slightly off. Recently, Past President Fred Smith’s email was listed as smithfj@cdmsmiith.com. Notice the extra i in CDM Smith.
  5. When in doubt, email the person, not as a reply but through your existing email system. Better yet – text or call them.
Please be cautious and careful and when in doubt check!
