Welcome to the new OWEA Electronic Newsletter

What is this new OWEA Electronic Newsletter?
This is just another communication tool OWEA will use to reach our members. This doesn’t replace the Buckeye Bulletin in any way, but will give us a way to reach you with information you need to know in a timely manner. Our members vary in how they prefer to communicate, and this is just another option for them.

How often will it be published?
That depends on what’s happening. We know your time is precious and don’t want to clog your inbox with unnecessary items, so this newsletter will be published as needed. Mostly it will be on a monthly basis.

Who gets it?
All OWEA members who have chosen to receive and provided an up to date email address.

My co-worker is a member, but didn’t get the email – why is that?
They should first check their spam. If nothing is in there, then their membership may be expired, or they may need to update their email. Please have them email OWEA at info@ohiowea.org.

This is pretty cool, and I would like to advertise my product or service in it. How do I do that?
Currently we use this newsletter to promote our sponsors and don’t directly sell advertising in it. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, please contact Megan Borror at megan@ohiowea.org.

Can I submit something for the newsletter?
YES! We are very open to informative articles and can help determine if it’s a better fit for the Buckeye Bulletin or this newsletter. Please reach out to Megan Borror at megan@ohiowea.org and discuss this.

WEF members to vote on Bylaw Changes

On Wednesday, January 29th a vote concerning proposed bylaw changes will be send to all WEF members. The WEF Constitution and Bylaws Subcommittee recently completed an extensive review of WEF’s Constitution and Bylaws and is recommending the following changes:
  • Revising the name of the C&Bs to Bylaws, as WEF’s Articles of Incorporation serve as the constitution of WEF
  • Removal of redundant or cumbersome language, resulting in a more streamlined document
  • Prescriptive, non-governing sections moved to either WEF, House of Delegates, or Committee Leadership Council Policy and Procedure
  • Simplifications have been made to various sections based upon legal counsel recommendations

A message was sent out to all WEF members on Monday, December 16th letting them know that the vote is coming, how the process works, and a general overview of the proposed changes. WEF’s existing C&Bs require a 45-day notification period prior to a membership vote. Consequently, the vote will be sent to all WEF members on January 29th

OWEA meets with the Ohio EPA

We know the key to a great relationship is communication. That’s why OWEA is regularly meeting with representatives from the Ohio EPA to ensure communication lines are open and that YOUR interests are being considered.

Recently a small group of OWEA leaders met with several officials at the Ohio EPA. This is the second meeting of this type and the purpose is just an open dialogue about current and emerging issues. Topics covered in this most recent meeting included a follow up to our recent Biosolids Workshop, PFAS and H2Ohio. We hope these meetings will continue on a regular basis.
