The Ohio EPA has released a public comment request for the five-year updates to the Biosolids Program Rules. A factsheet is available online here: Biosolids_Proposal_FactSheet_final.pdf. A public hearing is scheduled for January 6, 2026, for any wishing to hear comments on these proposed rules; note that registration information is included in the above link.

The OWEA office will be closed on Wednesday, December 24 through Friday, December 26 and also Wednesday, December 31 through Friday, January 2 to allow our staff to spend some much-needed time with their families. Thank you for your patience and have a safe and happy holiday.

The OWEA Plant Operations and Laboratory Committees are soliciting presentations for the 2026 workshop being held April 21-22, 2026 at DelCo in Delaware, Ohio. The workshop is anticipated to cover a wide variety of topics in Plant Operations / Laboratory. This is an in-person workshop. 

Presentations should be 40 minutes in length, with a 5-minute question and answer period. Deadline for submission is December 22, 2025. We are especially looking for the topics listed below:

• Process Control Analysis

• In-situ Process Monitoring Technologies / Case Studies

• Process / Laboratory Data Management Tools

• Workforce Development

• Nutrient Removal & Monitoring

• Operations / Maintenance

• Wastewater or Biosolids Treatment Technologies

• Artificial Intelligence

If you are a Certified Wastewater Operator, you should take a moment and check your E-Biz account to make sure that all your hours are correctly reflected in your account. Now is the time to do this, not the evening of December 31. At times your account may not show the hours you think it should, this could be due to an incorrect or no Operator ID being entered during registration or many other reasons.
